Poverty in Singapore

The poverty in Singapore might not be obvious but it is definitely all around us. Of these people, most of them are senior citizens. They could not catch up to the fast economic growth and thus lagged behind. How about their children? Their children most probably abandoned them to catch up with the modern society. In addition, they might find them as a burden to their lives. Here are some pictures to show examples of these senior citizens :

As we can see, most of them are senior citizens, picking up recycled materials to make a living for themselves. Some are also homeless and live in the void decks of hdb flats.
They cannot rely on their children to lead a good life. These few examples clearly shows that Singapore still faces poverty even though we are quite a well developed country.

       REFLECTIONS ON OUR HOLIDAY :D

Fernanda:

I went back to school quite often during the holidays. So basically, me and a few of my cca mates got selected to participate in the fsd competition this coming March. We spent most of the time during the holidays going back to school to choreograph movements for our routine. I personally feel that it is a really good opportunity for me to be exposed to the different aspects of NCC. The journey might be tough at times but i felt that i grew a lot as a person from it. I learnt how to be even more responsible during trainings and that every single one of us ought to contribute to the team. I find myself being more responsible for my work perhaps because of the fact that i have limited time to complete my homework everyday. I really feel that it is an enriching part of my life, and really hope to do well in the competition this year.

Amos:

I did not really go anywhere during the holidays, only a small 2 days 1 night trip to Thailand which took 12 hour coach ride to reach. It was an overnight bus ride which means that I left Singapore at around 8pm and reached at around 8am. Other than the trip, I stayed in Singapore for the rest of my holiday. I spent half watching YouTube, playing FIFA 13 on PS3. I did go back to school for holiday acts (CCA) as i am from NCC. I needed to go back 3 times in total. 2 times was to do drills and physical training. The other one was ROD which basically mean retirement of duty. Our year 4 seniors were stepping down and we held a ceremony to commemorate their times as their different ranks. I also spent time watching football and guess that my holiday was pretty okay.

Suikiat:

I went to China during the holidays. I went to eat Beijing duck and it tasted really nice. I also went to the Great Wall of China and the scenery and weather there is great. I missed their cold but refreshing weather. China is a really wonderful place but i couldn't really catch their accent at first. But after a while, i noticed the beauty of China and its rich history. I hope that i could learn more and increase my knowledge of China's 5000 years of experience.

Entong:

During the holidays I did not really go anywhere, but there was this one day where I spent at wild wild Wet with my family members. I played many thrilling games there and had a great time there. The last time I went to wild wild Wet before that day was 7 years ago so I can't remember anything about there at all so when I went there again, I felt that it was a brand new experience. I hope that I would have another chance to spend such a meaningful time with my family members:)
Qianyu:
I went to china, a country that i visit often, during the holidays. As usual, i went to visit my relatives and had a lot of fun with my cousins whom i had missed dearly. My family then visited 厦门, also known as Amoy in english. We went on a island named 鼓浪屿 by boat. The island was shaped like a piano and everyone living on the island had a piano. It was a beautiful island, with music flowing from all directions once you stepped on the island. It was a breathtaking place and many newlyweds visited the island to take their wedding pictures. The place had a vintage feel to it and it was beautiful with all the delicate flowers and the elegant scenary. Time flew by and we had a lot of fun on the island. Two weeks went by in the blink of an eye and my vacation in china ended on a beautiful note. The rest of my holidays were training in school and studying and i thought that it was quite well spent and would love to visit china again.
